LFC Services
Marriage/Nikah
Prior to conducting the nikah, couples are invited for individual marriage advice and guidance. Based on availability, the nikah, together with the sermon, may be conducted at a venue of your choice or alternatively the nikah may also be solemnised at LFC. We are currently in the processes of adopting a license for civil ceremonies, in order to officially register marriages at LFC.
Divorce
All cases are either dealt with in-house, or referred to our panel of Islamic jurists to determine whether the Shari’a threshold for an Islamic divorce has been met. A brief summary of the procedure is as follows; once you have agreed to instruct LFC, a meeting will be arranged where further details will be taken from you. The details will be put before a panel of Islamic jurists and they will consider these in light of the Shari’ah requirements. At this stage you will be advised whether you have grounds for an Islamic divorce or not. If not, you will be given the option of mediation.
If your circumstances warrant divorce, your spouse will be contacted with an attempt to obtain his agreement to divorce. Divorce will be granted if the spouse agrees, or in the alternative through the agreement of the scholars, based on the spouses lack of co-operation. A divorce where both parties agree (Khula), should take no more than 3 months to complete. Whereas, a divorce upon the request of the wife (Faskh), where the other party contests or simply does not respond to correspondence, is likely to take between 4-5 months.
Counselling
Advisors at LFC are experienced in counselling, mediation and arbitration for the Muslim community. LFC values the need and importance of a private, confidential and professional service.
Moon sighting/Salah timing
Calculative information is taken from The Royal Observatory, Greenwich and The Sahara Sky Observatory, Morocco, which is then corroborated with reports of the actual sighting of the crescent by Chief Qazi’s (Judges), the national observational representatives for local countries such as Morocco, Kenya and South Africa. The LFC endorses the actual, naked eye, witnessing of the crescent between 5 – 15 minutes after the sun has set.
Dawah
LFC is involved in interfaith work in the local community. We conduct visits for schools, organisations and individuals and offer workshops on understanding basic Islam. LFC appreciates the role of interfaith work in the peaceful coexistence of society.
