Shaykh Mohammad Yazdani, on behalf of London Fatwa Council expresses his deepest condolences at last nights attack in London,
“I was shocked to my core when I learnt of the devastating attacks in London, as I left the mosque last night. Whilst myself and the majority of the Muslim community were busy in night time prayers, a horrible act of terror was being played out outside. I am deeply, deeply aggrieved that such heinous violence and terror again be upon our streets.
In the sacred month of Ramadhan when Muslims are engrossed in the remembrance of God and in togetherness with their families and communities, I cannot accept that the perpetrators of this terror are observers of my faith. Acts of terror are always deplorable but more so during the sacred month of Ramadhan.
These vile individuals belong to an ideology that is alien to us. ISIS have no value for the sanctity of life and are an enemy to us all. I firmly believe that the reason it has been so difficult to completely eradicate groups like ISIS and other terror networks, is because we are fighting an ideology and we cannot bomb an ideology. We must defeat ideology with ideology. I believe those well versed in authentic Islamic Theology must be at the forefront in the fight against alien ideologies. It is not bombs, but ideological debilitation that will defeat ISIS and its accomplices.
Last night we saw the London Met and Security Services respond within minutes and our community coming together, as people shared lifts and opened their homes to offer safety and security to their fellow Londoners. This is what community is about and this is what London is all about.
London is my home. I live here, I work here, my children were born here and attend schools in London. When a street in London is hurt, I am hurt. I call upon London to stand united in the face of such terror. We are a strong, resilient community and we know that together we are stronger and can overcome every difficulty.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by last night’s atrocity and especially to the families who have lost loved ones. ”
